Criterium Monash

A small field of riders nominated for Tuesday nights Criterium racing. Almost perfect weather greeted the 13 riders with the largest field in B grade.

A grade set out for a 40 minute plus 1 lap race. Matthew Benson raced hard to catch up his 1 lap handicap but couldn’t bridge the gap to the front runners. Ken Ridley held off all comers to take out a well-deserved win with Benson coming home for second place. Lee Stevens rounded out the finishers podium with third place. Steve Jaensch came in for fourth place and Sequoia Frahn, in his first A grade outing rode hard to finish fifth.

B Grade saw a field of 6 riders line up for 35minutes plus 1 lap. All riders rode strong throughout the race with the finale coming down to a sprint finish. Dennis Robinson sprinted hard to claim the win ahead of the Bond family, Clayton Bond in second place and his dad Terry Bond in third. Evergreen Peter Weston came in for fourth place with Angelo Ylia in fifth place. Brayden Rasheed’s young legs struggled against the older riders and rounded out the field in sixth place.

C Grade had the smallest field for the night with only two riders nominating. Tyler Stevens set out to chase down Gordon Lawton with a half lap handicap. Stevens made up the ground early on and held onto Lawtons wheel for the remainder of the race. On the sprint lap Stevens was too strong for Lawton and took out the win. Lawton came in second, but it won’t be so easy for Stevens next week.
