A Grade saw
Matthew Benson given a whole lap handicap against Lee Stevens, Ken Ridley and
Steve Jaensch. Despite this sizable handicap the trio of Stevens, Jaensch and
Ridley could not hold off the outright speed of Benson. Racing for 45 minutes
Benson reeled in the A grade peloton with 10 minutes to spare. After recovering
Benson attacked and soloed to victory with Stevens taking out the sprint for
second place and Jaensch rounding out the podium.
B Grade was short of numbers with
only two riders nominating. Clint Bambrick and Lee Rasheed traded blows for
their 20 minute race. Rasheed started the sprint early and couldn't hold off
the fast finishing Bambrick who claimed the win ahead of Rasheed.
C Grade had the largest field for
the night with 6 riders. With few attacks the C grade bunch stayed together for
the duration of the race. Dennis Robinson drove the group hard all night and
was able to hold off all comers to take out the win in a sprint battle with
Frank Sullivan in second place and Angelo Ylia claiming third. Sue Lahainer
rolled home for fourth place in her first finish in C Grade with Ruth Strout
and Peter Weston claiming 5th and 6th respectively.
D Grade had three starters with
Gordon Lawton 1 lap in front of Tyler Stevens who was a further lap in front of
Brayden Rasheed. All three riders rode hard with Brayden managing to catch up
to Tyler Stevens. These two worked together to try and reel in the lone leader
Gordon Lawton. Fortunately for Gordon Lawton the two youngsters couldn't bridge
the gap to get onto the lead lap. Lawton
took home the winnings with Rasheed Jnr out sprinting Stevens Jnr.
